System Construction Framework

A brand-independent standard for constructing, releasing, maintaining and retiring operating systems, independent of package format.

Core principle

An operating system is a product with a support period, a threat model, a data policy and an update contract. An image without them is a build artefact, not a system.

Documentation model

SCF separates the universal obligations of a system, the portable model of construction, the profiles that narrow it for a class of product, and the evidence that proves conformance. Build engines and package formats are implementation detail behind an adapter contract; they do not define the standard.

Relationship to HIF

The Human Interface Framework governs every human-facing surface of a system: the shell, the installer, recovery, the builder, documentation and the portal. SCF governs how the system is constructed, secured, proven and maintained. Neither corpus may weaken the other. Human Interface Framework.

Status

Version 0.1 is a draft normative and professional knowledge base. Its Constitution contains 149 requirements identified by the SCF-* prefix. Known gaps of the standard itself are recorded in the corpus backlog.
